ADVENT: Faith of the Feminine

The word "Advent" comes from the Latin root adventus, which means "arrival" or "coming."

Christmas is about the birth of the Christ consciousness at the center of the human soul. It doesn’t belong to the past. It’s a living presence within us. The birth of the Christ Child is not an event that happened only in Bethlehem, for it is taking place in each of us, every day. It is this coming that we celebrate during Advent, the coming of the Christ consciousness within each of us.

This first Sunday in ADVENt we celebrate our FAITH by remembering the faith of two women, Mary and Elizabeth, cousins to one another and the mothers of Jesus and John the Baptist.

Our Bible story come from Luke Chapter 1. Join us in person or online.

We complete our 21 Day Gratitude Challen and take teh time to reflect on what we have experience as a community and as individuals. Rev. Patricia will speak and also ask others to share from their deep weel of gratitude this Sunday.

This final Sunday before Thanksgiving is our traditional SOUP and PIE Celebration.

This Sunday we are also honoring one of our members, Board President and Rummage Sale Wizard, Philip Faggard who is moving away. We apprciate his dedication, his healing presence and humor and his willingness to jump and do whatever is needed to make our community feel like a true spiritual home.

“Permanent Gratitude”

We often feel we ’should’ be grateful for whatever shows up, whether we’re feeling grateful or not, and yet is that even healthy or possible? It’s not when we are living from worldly consciousness. That’s because worldly consciousness often traps us in the fair/unfair cycle where we lose sight of the power of true gratitude. Gratitude has the capacity to transform into a very beautiful experience when we live from God consciousness. In this talk we’ll discuss how to gain greater freedom and satisfaction around our experience of gratitude.

Janice Campbell is a long time Unity student and teacher. Her passion is integrating spiritual principles into our everyday life to more fully experience the presence and love of God. “The Power of Gratitude”

In life, we’re often told to be grateful for what we have. To avoid complaining and to be content with our lot in life. Or, on the flip side, we’re encouraged to never settle and to keep striving for more.

 So which is it? And why does it feel like these two methods are so at odds?

 Our ability to be happy with what we have has a direct impact on our happiness and contentment in our life......and yet, we’re often discouraged from enjoying that same contentment. We’re told to push ourselves to do and have more, that we’ll be happier when we finally achieve these goals or pass those milestones.

How can we balance gratitude for what they have with the desire to push ourselves to a higher level?

“Through the Valley”

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever..

I love to look once again at the 23rd Psalm. It’s a classic passage that I’ve know since childhood. Each time we explore the passage, there are new insights and powerful wisdoms to discover from these words and the metaphors and memories they evoke. "The Mystical Intersection of the Lord's Prayer and the 12 Powers"

Here is a framework for connecting the Lord’s Prayer and the 12 Powers to deepen your prayer life. The Lord’s Prayer is a power prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. The 12 Powers are an energy system in our bodies, like the chakras, that we can use for healing, creativity and prosperity. Combining these two systems delivers a powerful spiritual experience.

Rev. Blair presented this experience at a Unity Village retreat and had a great response.  He also recently presented it at Unity of Santa Barbara.

After the pandemic, we hear people wanting "things" to go back to normal. But life is not about going back, but about advancing, moving forward.

Rev. Blair has ideas to share about breaking out of old patterns and letting Spirit guide you to new, extraordinary experiences of good.

Rev. Blair Tabor is an ordained Unity Minister of forty-three years, accomplished speaker, composer and musician.  He has used his varied talents to inspire and delight churches, retreats, conferences and young people all over the country with his speaking and songs.  He leads a variety of workshops and trainings for congregants, ministers and boards of directors for churches.  

Six years ago, he retired from Unity San Diego after 30 years of service.  Currently, he is serving as the Administrative Director of the Unity Church of Alhambra Foundation which provides scholarships for students who want to become Unity ministers and Licensed Unity Teachers, as well as provide grants for Regional youth activities and church growth projects in the Southwest Unity Region.  Rev. Blair is also Advising Minister for Unity of Tustin.  He and his wife, Meredith, lead Unity travel opportunities around the world. 

As a songwriter, he has written over two hundred songs.  He has produced a book on Spiritual (Sufi) Dancing.  He and the Unity San Diego church band, The Affirmatives, recorded a CD of 13 of Blair’s songs.  A songbook of these songs is available.  He has also produced meditation CD’s.  He plays a variety of instruments and delights in making people smile.  This year, he and his wife, Meredith, were  awarded Unity Worldwide Ministries “Grace Note” award for lifetime achievement in New Thought music.  He produced a new CD to celebrate the occasion.

His Mission is: Develop and deliver resources for spiritual transformation.

His goal is to remind people of their connection to God’s love and joy.

So often we get in the cycle of waiting to live, once I…then I….. or someday… Judgments are what rob us of enjoying and savoring the precious moments of our life. These judgments are the result of the inner battle between our spiritual self and worldly expectations and conditioning. In this talk we’ll explore these opposing forces and learn a simple way to reconcile them to enjoy the peace that is our birthright.

Receive Your Life-Becoming More of Who You Are (Wed. Sept. 11th to Oct. 9th)
When you have the spiritual understanding of your true Self, your perception of the life you’ve been given to live shifts. In our 5 week class you will learn a system of spiritual practices that will set you free from any misunderstandings you may have been carrying around about yourself.

The drum circle is an ancient and effective tool to connect people to themselves,

to each other, and to our surroundings.

Bring a drum if you have one!

From Sahar: “The drum circle is an ancient and effective tool to connect people to themselves, to each other and to our surroundings. I invite everyone into the group, from the beginner to well-seasoned drummers. 

I create fun and ease for everyone. It's delightful to witness the joy that arises when one who has never played a drum discovers they can play more than they thought they could.

“Sufi Mysticism and Rumi”

As we continue our exploration into some of the World Wisdom traditions Rev. P will explore Sufism which is said to be a branch of the Islamic religion that emphasizes mysticism. The Persian Poet Rumi is probably best know for his poetry to the beloved. This Sunday we will deepen our experience of Islam and celebrate Rumi and other poets who take us deeply into the mystery of life.

Rev. Dr. Patricia Keel is the Minister of Unity of Santa Rosa. She speaks 2 to 3 Sundays each month. Patricia is a longtime student of metaphysics and the mystical traditions of India where she has travelled for the past 18 years.
